How to rename a DarkRP server to StarwarsRP or similar mode
Introduction
DarkRP is a base used for many roleplay servers of other categories. For example Star Wars RP, Military RP, SCPRP, etc. In this article I will be showing you a step-by-step guide to rename your server to match whatever category you wish to be under. In this example we will be explaining how to rename a server to be under Star Wars RP.
Step 1: DarkRP Preparation
Install Dark RP onto your Server.
If you haven't done this already we have a step-by-step guide to do so here. How to Install DarkRP on Your Gmod Server
Step 2: Renaming DarkRP Gamemode Folder
Navigate to '/garrysmod/gamemodes'
Look for the file named "darkrp".
Rename the file to match the category you want to be under. For example for Star Wars RP we would want to rename it to "starwarsrp".
Step 3: editing darkrp.txt file
Navigate to '/garrysmod/gamemodes/starwarsrp'
Locate the "darkrp.txt" file.
Rename the file to match the name of the gamemode folder. For our example our file will be named "starwarsrp.txt".
Then after open up the file using a code editor for example Notepad++.
Once in change the title to match the gamemode for example we would put "Star Wars RP".
The title here does not need to match the gamemode folder.
Step 4: Editing the init.lua and cl_init.lua files
Navigate to '/garrysmod/gamemodes/starwarsrp/gamemode'
Locate the 'Init.lua' and 'cl_init.lua' files.
Open the 'Init.lua' file.
Next to GM.Name enter the name of your gamemode in the parentheses.
Then you would open and do the same thing in the 'cl_init.lua' file.
The names here do not need to match the gamemode folder.
Step 5: Changing gamemode in startup parameters
Navigate to your Nexus Core console
Click on startup on the left navigation bar.
Thenunder gamemode enter the same name you put for the gamemode folder. For our example we would put "starwarsrp".
Step 6: Restarting your server
After editing the DarkRP gamemode, restart your GMod server.
This can typically be done through your server control panel or by using server commands.
Step 7: Verify gamemode change
After restarting your GMod go to the server directory.
Then navigate to the desired category.
If you see your server appear in the category you have done it correctly.
You can also enter the servers IP into the legacy browser and see what gamemode it appears as.
Conclusion
The alternate Dark RP gamemodes can provide and unique RP experience compared to the based game mode. You can experience anything from being a Clone in the Clone Wars to being a MTF containing SCP's. The possibilities are near limitless with the Dark RP base.
